After reading this amazing story I'm sorry I missed the chance to hear Trombone Shorty when he was performing at The Georgia Theater last month. This book has so much going for it-a story of persistence and determination by a young boy, a sampling of the culture and energy of New Orleans, and a beautiful example of "paying it forward." I loved reading about the young boys making their own instruments to form their band - and of the supportive people around them who nurtured their young dreams. T

I am not usually a fan of books with a historical biographical background, but this is beyond that. Add to the autobiographical piece, a well written story line which is humble and inspiring. Though I rarely donate causes such as the one in this book, I was on board. I love the cause, the reason for inspiration and the hope provided within this story. I would have loved to see the original band with their ragtag instruments learning how to make music like gumbo. An excellent addition to the coll
