A Gentleman in Moscow required a lot of my patience.
A sometimes charming, classy book. I enjoyed Count Rostov and his comrades. I wanted to love it. I tried, but I did not.
It read so slowly. I was roughly half way through it before I felt fully interested.
On the one hand, the slow development and subtlety was part of the beauty. The story and history unveil gradually, and this was a big part of its essence. The language, details, and interactions are rich and lovely. I savored bits and pieces.

This book is like one of the meals at the Boyarsky, the fine restaurant at the heart of the Metropol Hotel in Moscow. Perfect from start to finish, hitting all of the right notes in between. I gave a huge sigh of satisfaction when I finished. Glorious.
