Shelves: fiction, sci-fi
Sci-Fi is one of just a few genres that I usually don't read. My son asked when he saw me with this book, "You're reading Science Fiction?" I responded, "No, it's just fiction. About science." Hmm.
If this is sci-fi, then it was a good exception for me. Science, action-adventure, humor, survival, and suspense - this book has a lot going on.

Some thoughts:
There's a lot of crude language for an otherwise clean read.
The author is REALLY smart about space and NASA and science.

Honestly, one of the most surprising, exciting, smart, funny books I've ever read. I learned a crapload of science stuff, I cried, and I texted "pirate-ninja!" to my husband. Read this book. ...more

Given that this book is "hard" sci-fi and spends a lot of time discussion units of measure, trajectories, navigation and whatnot... And also given that much of the dialogue and characterization is wooden and riddled with cliché, I enjoyed reading this book much more than I probably should have. ...more
