Update May 2017: After a re-read I don't think I liked this book as much. A lot of the plot is romance based, otherwise nothing really happens for about 80% of the book. I'm lowering my rating to 3 stars-- I still "liked it" and in the end I am a sucker for fairy tale re-tellings. Original Review:
This book is a little inspired by Beauty and the Beast but is definitely different enough to be worth the read.

Feyre is a 19 year old girl who hunts for her very impoverished family and is the one who keeps them alive. He father is crippled and her elder sisters don't do anything to help survive. While out hunting for a deer, she encounters a large wolf who she kills more to protect herself from the Wolf (after all, he could be faerie who are dangerous creatures who hate humans). As it turns out, he is indeed a faerie, and a vengeful faerie friend comes to claim Feyre as a captive for violating a treaty between humans and faeries. This faerie friend takes her back to his home (otherwise Feyre would die in exchange for the wolf's life) in the faerie part of the continent across the Wall. There she must spend the rest of her days unless she can figure out how to get out of the treaty.

All right, so its pretty obvious Feyre falls in love with her captor faerie. It is a great romance. I loved it as a romance because there really wasn't a love triangle for once. All right, a little bit of one but only a little teensy bit, but it was so refreshing to not have any of that TEAM ***** crap. You know? I am just getting so sick of the prevalence of love triangles in YA fiction, especially in fantasy which is what I mostly enjoy. Thank goodness this exists.

It's also most jam packed with lots of interesting/action/things that happen versus you know, oh I love him but I can't (and then insert long chapters of nothing happening but the character complaining or something else dumb). I enjoy a book that gets to the point.

The worldbuilding is nice, nothing too unique. The faerie lore is interesting and I would like to learn more about it. I'm not sure if this is a series but I can see Mrs. Maas expanding upon it. There is definitely content that she could continue on with. I would definitely pick up the sequel. :) ...more

Shelves: fairytale-ish

Best book I've read all year!

I read another user's description of this book that said ACOTAR is like three novels in one. That is an accurate statement; each third felt as if there was a different focus and progressive stages of character development. I loved every word.

This book made me cry, both from happiness and sadness. The prose, the characters, and the setting were all so expertly written and described that it played out just like a movie.

I was really excited for this book and this was one of my most anticipating releases of 2015 first because it's written by Sarah J. Maas and also because it is a Beauty and the Beast retelling and I love retellings. Believe me, I wasn't disappointed when I finished this book. What a ride. This was the first book I ever DNF'd but still considered it as Read and even gave it a ONE STAR! WILD! To this day, I remember that reading experience. I was frustrated. I was bored. I KNEW the answer to the riddle was what it was! (I'm not spoiling it). I did like the book but not as much as I though I would. I'm curious as to what Rhysand was shocked about, but I assume that has something to do with the sequel's plot.
