More of a 3.5.
It was all very fast paced and interesting at every turn. I really enjoyed all of the storylines and liked how they intertwined.
There was just something that didn't allow me to feel a strong connection to any of the characters. But I'm looking forward to see in what direction Rhodes will take the series, there's a lot of potential so I definitely want to continue with the sequels!

After all the hype i had heard about this book, i was really expecting so much more. The story is simple enough, so it wasn't confusing, and was actually a pretty good start to a fantasy series, i just couldn't really get into it.

This book was pretty good. It isn't necessarily the most original-- 3 separate kingdoms with growing tensions and need for power that sparks a war between, but the characters involved are written very well. We get at least one character from each kingdom, and everyone of them has to deal with tensions between politics and morals. Magnus is the Prince of Limeros who has learned in his life to never disobey his bloodthirsty king father's wishes, but he has to constantly show no emotion or reaction
