We loved this book, overall, though it was unsettling to some as we took it as bit of a life lesson, hoping that we would not end up as Mrs Palfrey did.

We loved the language, and the, now, almost nostalgic feeling produced when reading fiction first published so many decades before, and our readers savoured the elegant prose, and the individuality of the characters populating the Claremont Hotel.

Like a little gem of an introduction to this author. I love her subtlety and detail. I can see all of the characters in this book, people often compare her to Austen and I can see why, her novels are portraits of a certain class of society and their lives.
