Parched by Melanie Crowder – 5th Grade and up, Multicultural/Realistic Fiction – This was a really tough book to read. I enjoyed it nonetheless. I found the approach to speak from the point of view of three characters, a lead dog, a young boy and a young girl was a powerful choice.
