This Book won the Caldecott award this month, so I wanted to read it right away. I have to say it is a very unique book. At first glance you would think that a third or fourth grader could read this, but the words and plot are much more advanced, so it is in fact actually for older children to read. I'm delighted that this marvelous, original story is the winner of the Newbery Award. The tale of a magical squirrel, two children and their interesting adults should be read by my friends who do not usually read books for children because it is funny, exciting, and very special. ...more

This is a fun one. I'm going to read it to my 6 and 8 year old girls, because I think they'll really like it, even if they aren't familiar with a lot of the words used. I laughed out loud many times, and I hope my girls will too. Loved it. ...more

A cute little story about a girl and a squirrel with some humor and a few existential moments which are to be expected in a Kate DiCamillo novel.

Perhaps 2 1/2, I thought it was kind of strange, although a few lines struck me as funny- Holy unanticipated occurences!

A very sweet story, just lacking some of the oomph of her other novels.
