In some ways this book is better than my star rating, but my primary complaint is that this book is 5th grade creepy, not 7th grade creepy. There's a larger coming-of-age/adventure component than the cover would hint at. Will test run it with students and see if they like it. ...more

A perfectly creepy middle grade read. Just scary enough for e average 10-year-old with messages about growing up, friendship and loyalty. 12 is an age where everything starts to change, and Holly Black captures it perfectly in this novel. Well-worth reading.

This book was a lot of fun. Part adventure, part ghost story, part coming of age story, this book is told from the perspective of a 12-year-old boy but also is successful at giving the perspectives of his two friends who are girls. It was a great story and very accurately and emotionally portrayed some of the issues of growing up.

Slightly creepy, but not gory... This book was very fun to read!!!! It has some ghosts in it, and the mention of a child's murder, but it really is about the friendships of three 12-year-olds and how their lives begin to change as they grow. It is also about fin shining what you started! Great suspense and great writing wrap this book in one neat package!!!! And, inspite the tile, this book will appeal to boys. Boys and girls alike won't be disappointed when they read Doll Bones! ...more

Good story. I don't usual like "scary" stories but I enjoyed this one. Liked the way this "growing up" story was told. Different! Really not too scary. :) ...more
