Conner, a nobleman, kidnaps four boys, intent on turning one into a prince who has been missing for years. His goal? To put that false prince on the throne before another nobleman can claim the throne for himself. One of those boys is Sage, a clever thief who drives Conner crazy. This is Sage’s story, and it is very well told. His character is witty, rascally, and surprising. My son figured out the twist as we read this aloud—I was so proud! But we both liked the story so much we instantly went

Summary:
Sage, along with 3 other teens are recruited by Bevin Conner. Sage and the other boys came from orphanages and Conner is trying to turn them into princes. Why? The country of Carthya is on the verge of a civil war and Conner wants to create an heir to the throne (a space that should have been filled by a son of the King that was supposedly lost at sea). Conner is a nobleman in Carthya and he does not want to see one of his enemies take the throne, so he trains these boys. However, Connor ...more

I bought this book when it was the kindle daily deal but didn't get around to reading it because I had a large stack of books from the library on my shelf so they got priority.
I can't believe I waited so long to read this book. It was a little gem that I had sitting right in front of me and didn't know it! But, it really rescued me, right at a time I was in a reading slump.
This book was great! I read all morning and finished it in a few hours. I just couldn't put it down.

I was SO taken with this book. Though I would consider this an excellent "boy book," this girly girl loved it and could hardly put it down and am listening to the sequel. It is packed with adventure and the plot twists and turns constantly. It is full of surprises -- and I loved to be surprised. The short chapters make it easily accessible to reluctant readers as do the cliffhangers. I had a very difficult time liking Sage! What a stubborn, arrogant, careless with his life little jerk I thought

Because I love my friends in book club, I did something that I usually never do! I read this book a second time. When they chose this book, I was less than thrilled, I had read it about a year ago and it bored me. But I decided that rather than say I didn't like it and didn't remember much about it, I decided to give it another go so I could at least participate in the discussion. I think I liked it a little more this time around. I had to really focus on what was going on especially with my cha

An excellent book that I could not put down. It is action packed, but the characters are deep too. Readers really learn to understand why the characters act the way they do, but in a natural way. Can't wait for the rest of the trilogy!

I listened to the audio and enjoyed the story, I think it's a good book for boys 4th grade and up (girls would like it as well).
