What Members Thought
While I enjoyed this book, I thought it went on a bit long after I got the point too often, and mostly it made me want to read the first book, which sounds great. That isn't at all a bad thing in a BOOK, but I think as a Newbery contender, this doesn't cut it. I loved the setting of Mount Eskel, but thought Asland was less clear. Characters other than Miri and maybe Peder and Katar (to the extent that she appears) were fairly vacant. I didn't buy a couple of the main dramatic moments (the sudden

I adored Princess Academy when I read it several years ago! A few months ago, I enjoyed a stage adaptation - which prompted me to finally read this sequel. Much more political than the original tale, this one still features the awesome little Miri doing big things to make her world a better place.
It appears that I read Princess Academy for the first and only time back in 2005, so it was hardly fresh in my memory as I started the sequel. Shannon Hale is one of the most gifted writers out there, and Princess Academy is my favorite of her books -- so I was extremely eager to get my hands on this sequel! It was everything I hoped for: a well-written story expanding on some of my favorite themes (history, letter-writing, memory-keeping, loyalty) and great characters (Miri, of course; but I loved Britta and Esa and Peder and Steffan all over again, too!). By about halfway through this book, I had gotten to that point where I could ha

This sequel to PRINCESS ACADEMY does a great job of addressing the conflicting emotions we often encounter when we've discovered a cause we're passionate about. I'd love to see a book study of this book with PS Be Eleven!

I enjoy Shannon Hale's descriptive writing and her development of characters. This was a good sequel to Princess Academy, but I was not blown away.
