The innovative structure and captivating beginning make this biography a worthy read. It combined a traditional children's biography with the dramatization of the final hours and the documentary style of explaining various aspects of culture, technology, etc. in text boxes. The dramatization drew in the reader beautifully. I can see it capturing children. I also loved how Fleming showed the "branding" aspects of Amelia and was even handed with some of her more ruthless actions. Despite having wr

A very well-constructed biography. I liked how the chapters alternated between accounts of Amelia's life and details from her disappearance. Candace Fleming has clearly done her research and gives a whole picture of Amelia's life, documenting her childhood, early adult career, introduction to flying, and her career as a pilot and speaker. I was fascinated with the effort it must have taken for Earhart to publicize herself and it was nice to learn a little more about this aspect of her flying car ...more

I really loved the layout of this book. The story of Amelia's life was alternated with the story of the day of her disappearance and the story of people who may have heard distress cries that day. How absolutely fascinating and how very sad. The book absolutely sucked me in from page one. I don't often find nonfiction titles to be page-turners, but this one certainly was. ...more

Good for Mock Newbery. Good for OBOB for either elementary or middle school.

A great look at the mystery of Amelia's disappearance retold in part by ham radio hobbyists who picked up her calls for help. Great piece of research by Fleming. Engaging for everyone.

This one lived up to all the hype I have read. A wonderful reads like fiction, non-fiction. It made me want to read more about her life and aeronautics.

Enjoyed. Not sure how many kids will actually read, but it is interesting and would make a good bio for a report.
Flowed nicely.
