I kept seeing positive reviews of Moon over Manifest so I decided to read it. There is a bit of a mystery in the town of Manifest, Kansas and it is solved a little at a time as the story progresses. The story takes place in 1936 Manifest but flashes back to 1918. Abileen, a young girl, has to unravel the mystery of the town and her connection to it. Loved this historical fiction novel about a girl who goes to live in her father's hometown. It's set during the depression but there is also a mystery that the girl tries to solve from World War I. There are amazing themes of immigration, acceptance, and friendship in this book! ...more

This book took me a while to get into, but then I was hooked. It won the 2011 Newbery Medal for best juvenile fiction novel, and I understand why. Pretty clever and well written.

This was a fantastic book, worthy of the Newbery selection. A great story of Abilene Tucker, after her father sends her away for the summer to be cared for by people in a town he once lived. She spends time here, waiting for her father's return, and trying to place him in this town. She meets people and hears stories of years gone by, still trying to see how he or she belongs in this town. The audio was great! ...more

I did enjoy this book. I liked the double storyline between what was happening in 1917ish and 1930s. I liked hoping that everything would work out for Abilene. Listened to audiobook.
