So much good stuff! Kindness, grit, survival, love - all run through this book.

Viji and her sister Rukku run away to escape their father's abuse - he always says he will change, but he never does. The girls try to survive on the streets of Chennai, India. They find shelter under a bridge and meet two boys - Muthi and Arul - who are kind and show them the ropes. The work hard salvaging trash for items that can be sold to a junk dealer. Uplifting and heartbreaking at the same time, this short novel is told in an almost diary format. The plight of homeless children in India is ostensibly the subject, but in reality it's a book about family, love, loss, and finding your inner strength.
