A grimmer more high-stakes Boxcar Children.
The story of runaway sisters in India who are escaping an abusive father. Heartbreaking without being dark.
Uplifting and heartbreaking at the same time, this short novel is told in an almost diary format. The plight of homeless children in India is ostensibly the subject, but in reality it's a book about family, love, loss, and finding your inner strength. Highly recommended for middle grade readers.
