Difficult to put down, Jonathan Axier's book, according to the notes at the end, was even more challenging to write. Nine long years and several works that inspired him later, he has a winner. Reminiscent of Coraline, but oh, so much better, The Night Gardener will surely scare the kiddies but only enough to keep 'em turning the pages.
Swallowed whole (that is to say, read in one evening), The Night Gardener plays out in your head like a Timothy Burton movie.

Mock Newbery 2015 - Fast paced thriller! Brother and sister looking for work of any kind, find themselves in an unusual and kind of creepy home. There's mystery, fantasy and coming of age mixed up in this great story.

Holy cow! This was a great book! It's a Victorian aged mystery story about two Irish orphans who go to work on country estate. There is something strange going on at the estate that seems to be sucking the life out of the people who live there. The writing is awesome and the story is really hard to put down.

Another great example of imagination and creativity at its best! The Night Gardener is slightly creepy and full of heart at the same time. I think Guillermo deal Toro should buy the rights to create a screenplay for this book... He would bring The tree and Night Gardener to life on the big screen! Disney got to it first, so let's see what they do with it... http://variety.com/2015/film/news/nig...

Brilliant! Dark, atmospheric, completely page-turning and scary. I couldn't put it down. Fully deserving of all of the praise it has received.
