Wow! How uncharacteristically Mieville, but yet so Mieville in its inventiveness! i'll prob. write a longer review later but for now i just had to say how dazzled i was with this book, especially the completely original, yet completely possible, setting. that is a rare thing to find in a book, movie or anything nowadays- everything has been done and redone thousands of times. but... cities, existing in the same topographical location where the boundaries are invisible to the naked eye, yet stron

I first discovered him through looking up James Clavell's book, King Rat, discovering his book at the same time. I love that every book that he writes is so different from each other, while still writing fantasy and science. This book was not really for me.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves an engrossing plot, intriguing characters, and a highly original setting(s).

The book is a police procedural with a twist. A body is found in a skateboard park and a cop has to figure out what happened.
The twist, well there are two citys in one place. This is where the confusing part comes in, There are two citys, in one place. They overlap and there are rules the citizens have to live by, t ...more

This book is big departure from Mieville's previous work, more restrained in language (as is appropriate for the genre, in this case the crime novel)...in his words, "less Rococo." I continue to be blown away by this man's mind.
