Thanks to a friend on GoodReads.com, I was convinced to ask for A Game of Thrones for Chrismuhkwanzukkah, and received it. I had heard about the series A Song if Ice and Fire and was aware that HBO is going to start airing a miniseries called Game of Thrones in April 2011.

This was great to read, even though I've seen the series. It still has some very interesting revelations about what was going on in peoples' heads. Worth reading, for sure.

This was a re-reading for me; I first picked it up ten years ago, missed half the nuances (and three-quarters of the names) and promptly forgot about it. This time around was different.
First off, never before have I wanted to slap so many characters in one book before. For naivete, greed, cruelty, or really really bad parenting. This is a good thing, actually--I was definitely affected by the events and the people in the story.

A MUST read for anyone who calls themselves a fantasy fan. This book is a rite of passage.
