Great book!
China Mieville's New Crobuzun is bursting with details - neighborhoods, architecture, slums & dumps & filth, dirtbags, and twenty types of corruption and villainy. A lot of grit, like say Neal Stephenson's London, but at least you don't have to keep looking at the map to figure out what's going on.
I gave it 4 stars because there was a shift in word usage about halfway through the book. Every noun got an adjective - the sack was "vile", the torpor "horrible", &tc. It wasn't Lovecraftia ...more
