Shelves: signed-first-or-limited-edition, 1990-1999, easton-press, audiobook, retellings-reimaginings-and-mashes, fantasy
3.0 to 3.5 stars. Clever and original with some beautiful writing. Plot and storyline are a bit muddled so it is, ultimately, more about the journey than the destination.

It's funny looking back over this book's reviews and realizing that out of my goodreads friends (many of whom share similar reading tastes) about half of those who read this loved it, and half truly did not like it. A polarizing book to say the least.

I didn't like it. Don't mind if others do, but it just . . . didn't work for me. It felt like it was trying to be too literary while tromping around Baum's OZ and reimagining it. I was bored, did not care about the characters or what happened to the ...more

I read this book a while ago and enjoyed it so much that when I visited New York I saw the play on Broadway. The play's beyond fantastic.
That being said, I reread this book this week and didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. It's still very good, the characters are well developed and the story is entertaining, it just didn't tear at my heartstrings the way the play did.
I'm excited to read the next installment to discover how her son feels about her and to hopefully get more insight int ...more
