Really good book. Odd, darkly comic, poignant tale of a bungled terrorist attack. This is a deeply pessimistic book in which almost all the characters (communists, anarchists, police, etc.) are equally inept and dense. Given this, Conrad's sympathetic portrayal of the book's main female character, Winnie Verdun, and her mentally impaired brother is particularly notable. Conrad's not noted for his female characters, but this one is most interesting. Highly recommended. ...more
