The year is 1986. Park, the only (half) Asian kid in his high school, has been the target of bullies. Eleanor, the new kid in school, has bright fiery red hair a large physique, and secrets about home nobody can know. When Park reluctantly allows her to sit next to him on the bus, the two barely tolerate each other. Over the next few weeks they become friends and eventually boyfriend and girlfriend. But nobody, not even Park knows just how bad things are for Eleanor and her siblings at home and

Entertaining, romantic, and heartbreakingly wonderful. Eleanor and Park was a book that induced side-splitting laughter, smile inducing sarcasm and tear jerking moments of absolute happiness or devastating abuse. Every emotion imaginable was invoked by this strange but adorable couple. Eleanor is pegged as a fat girl and dubbed "Big Red" bbecause of her bright red curl by the kids that ride the bus. She is the new girl in town and Park takes pity on her by allowing her to sit in his seat on the

I only have two criticisms about Eleanor & Park. The first is minor, and I may even be wrong about it, but I noticed a few references that didn't seem time appropriate. I would stop reading and think, "this wasn't around back then." Then again, I could be wrong. My other complaint is there was too much strong language--f bombs & the use of 'Jesus' or 'God' in a derogatory manner. Other than that, I absolutely fell into and fell in love with this book.

Eleanor & Park introduces us intimately to the world of Eleanor, Park, and their changing relationship. At first, the two are complete strangers. Then after the two are forced together by fate, we watch them grow closer.
Eleanor is a curvy, red-headed girl who dressed like a Salvation Army Thrift Store threw up on her. She comes from a crowded household, with a stepdad who is a real piece of work.

I enjoyed this book, but a bit too much time was spent building the romance when it had already been properly introduced. The serious elements of the story were there from the beginning as hints that were somewhat subtle, but the turning point on that part of the story came too late. Eleanor & Park was a romance story for too much of the book to have it suddenly turn to extremely serious matters. I think the fault with this lies in the fact that it is a young adult novel; however, there are many

Ahh I feel like the ending is hanging or like, there should be a sequel where both of them meet again like after 12 years or so? Why does the girl have to act that way??? Really. I don't get it and I feel really sad for Park but again, those 3 long words, that must have really made the lad happy. I still could feel it.

Excellent book! *review for my students: this book is for older teens, and for readers whose parents only want them reading 100% clean books then this book is not for you until you're over 18 yrs or have parent's permission.
