Read with my girl!
I had to share this gem. Or rather, GEM. :) All real stories are never-ending, after all, and now she's caught in the tale... forever. :)
Her favorite parts? Atreyu meeting Falcor for the first time. All the beautiful pictures at the head of each chapter, each one following the alphabet. And the idea that she, too, is going to be caught in AURIN. And she is. As I am.
Classics remain classics. :)

Fantastisch!

I didn’t read this when I was younger and never saw the movie. I think I would have enjoyed this much more if I had. Narrator was good but I listened on CDs from the library and I would have been happier with it sped up. the descriptions of the many fanciful creatures Bastian comes across as original for the time it was written.
Am I right that the movie isn’t totally animated? As I listened I imagined cartoon characters and painted landscapes.

I was 11 when this book was published. I can‘t remember if I read it right away, it‘s been too long. I did read it before the movie came out. I had a hardcover with the coloured inks in blue and green and I am pretty sure I liked it a lot. I recall not likeing the movie much. Nothing looked like I imagined it. That is an ongoing theme with books into my adult life.
PS: And when you are done with this, read Momo! That was a pretty scary read for me as a kid. ...more

I think I actually enjoyed this more than I expected. I'm not sure that it should really be labeled a children's novel since there are some pretty dark things that happen. Bastian's loss of who he really is can be distressing when he's making such poor decisions. Ultimately I liked the reason for that portion of the story, which somewhat softened my irritation with Bastian. There seems to be an idea that there are things about ourselves that we may dislike, but they're such a huge part of who we
