I really love the selection. America was funny, Maxon was mysterious and handsome and Aspen was a very good option, the writing was easy to follow and the story so engaging that I couldn't put it down.

However, I had a lot of problems with this book. Maxon turned out a wimp who didn't defend America, he pretty much just let his father do whatever he liked and abused her. On the other hand, what a wimpy dude. I rarely if ever heard him complain in the selection, but in this book he tries to say ho I really love the selection. On the other hand, what a wimpy dude. I rarely if ever heard him complain in the selection, but in this book he tries to say how much he suffers being a prince and yet he goes to kiss Celeste and play with Kriss' feelings. And his explanation for making out with Celeste was so lame. Oh poor rich boy? You want fifteen minutes of sex to compensate everything that goes wrong in your life? Excuse me, but aren't all the citizens of ILea suffering as much if not more than you? And they aren't making out with mean people in public, are they? Gosh! Maxon was a huge dissapointment in this book.

America frustrated me even more, she started the series so strong, so willing to not let Maxon, Aspen or anyone else rule her life, she even said at the end of the selection how she was betting on herself only. Not on Maxon, Not on Aspen; IN HERSELF. I used to like her because of that.

Five chapters into this book her determination is all gone and she starts to take very silly decisions, and very often I found myself thinking:"that's your chance to talk to him and end this mess...talk to him, talk to him... you still can talk to him...c'mon talk to him...no, what are you doing? aaaaaaaaaaaaaargh" In fact those moments were so frequent that I ended up yelling. The worst was that just when I was ready to applaud her again for screaming against the caste system she apologizes. Nooooooooooooooooo! I know she apologizes to Maxon for causing him trouble, not to mention scars on his back, but I hated that it came out as though she regretted speaking up against the system and accepted the abuse of the king. I wanted her to pull out a Tris Prior and lash against her boyfriend's father like Tris did. No bad ass heroine should apologize for standing her ground. She was absolutely right, all that crap of twos vs. threes and sevens was stupid and apologizing for saying so makes her look weak.

Aspen was also a let down. I thought that he wasn't fighting enough for his woman. He pretty much let Maxon have her. I want my men to be possessive and I thought Aspen was ready to fight his way to get back America. He didn't do it and the only reason that Maxon and America didn't get together sooner was because she was indecisive, not because he, Aspen, was a real threat and did everything he had to do to make a worthy contender.

Then why the four stars review? Because I couldn't put the book down. As frustrated as I was with the characters I can appreaciate a book that keeps me reading all night and screaming for the sequel. I also like how the relationship with the other girls were.

America is seriously the most annoying and unlikeable character I've ever read of. This series has so much potential but most of the characters are so annoying and make it all worse.

I also don't like Maxon, Aspen is a little bit more up my alley because he's very kind. But also he's very stupid for letting America treat him that way, always running by her side like a dog.

The Elite was really good! I just couldn't put it down! In my opinion, it was better than the first book. I got a little mad at Maxon when he started hanging out with Kriss and what happened with Celeste, but Maxon and America had the best moments! I can't wait to read the One! ...more
