What Members Thought

As someone who read this before my mom passed last year, and as someone who was very close to my mom, I couldn't relate the disconnect she had with her own mother but I respected this memoir by Jennette because it takes courage to tell the world some things you need to get off your chest about your home life. I was in shock and awe with her writing. It was a wonderful read!

I don't know what I was expecting from this book. This is actually only my second memoir. But this book was powerful! I did not know that Jennette McCurdy went through so much abuse from her mother, but I love how this book talks about what she went through and how she shared her story for others.
I loved that the audio book was narrated by Jennette herself and it was very well done. I really don't know what else to say about this book other than I was completely shocked throughout the entire bo ...more

I really loved both reading and listening to her life's story it shows all the pain and uncertainty she faced while also saying by the end there was a light at the end of the tunnel. The story of her life was so well told even if some parts were difficult for me to get through I loved how she wrote it. This book tells of every bit of pain she went through all of the issues she had in life in great detail in a wonderfully emotional way that showed how long it took her to realize many things about

It seems like every time there’s a book with hundreds of thousands of 5 star reviews that I get so excited about I end up hating it. This is one of those books. I started off with the audiobook and which was read by the author and it was awful. I mean, horrible. This probably explains a whole lot about the acting career. Now, I’ve never seen her in anything I’m aware of but based on the book alone she didn’t strike me as Academy Award winning level. She actually struck me as more along the lines

A memoir much like many others written by child stars with overbearing parents. Jennette McCurdy takes us through what her 'normal' looked like in a way that many who have lived with dysfunctional parents can relate to. Written conversationally, this book feels like you're sitting down with a friend as they tell you what they've been dealing with. The present information of what was happening at Nickelodeon at that time adds depth to parts, and reading Jennette's experiences is heart breaking. I
