4 stars. I was a big fan of iCarly so I’ve been excited to read this and get Jennette’s story and wow was this informative and heartbreaking. My goodness she went through so much and I found this difficult to read at certain times especially the details of her bulimia. I’m honestly not comfortable reviewing this fully but I did think it was really good and I hope that it was therapeutic for her.

I went into this book blind as I knew nothing about Jennette McCurdy. Honestly, I chose to read the book for the "shocking" title and the overall hype around the book.
This was Jennette's account regarding her relationship with her mother who forced Jennette to become a child actresss. The emotional and physical abuse from Jennette's mother was hard to read. I would have liked being able to know more about Debra's childhood and early adulthood to obtain more understanding of why she acted in cer ...more

I feel like the synopsis says it all as far as what this memoir was about. Jennette McCurdy is the author of this memoir, the story of her life that for many years was actually forced on her. I felt so bad for her having a mother who was so overbearing, even to the point that her mother wanted her to stay small so she could acquire more acting parts which led to Jennette (Net) having anorexia. What was so awful is that her mother wasn't even concerned about that. Jennette's acting life eventuall

This is a hard book to read, but it is also quite a necessary one to read. Because what happened to the author is something that keeps happening, and that should not happen. At all.
It is significant to talk about these things, to make them known because it is so important. And so wrong.
And this book is a good way to make all these different and difficult topics come to light. Abuse, dysfunctional families, eating disorders, and therapy, to say just some of them. And she manages to talk about al ...more

I’m Glad My Mom Died details the beginning of Jennette McCurdy’s acting career and goes to her recovery up until now. She doesn’t hold back with the details and talks about everything she went through in the process of the rise in her childhood fame.
This didn’t go the way I really expected it too. I was expecting a completely different set of emotions to come from this story than did, but for this, it really f ...more

I don’t want to say I enjoyed this book. It feels wrong, but I did think it was meaningful and interesting. I’d always loved iCarly, but I never really knew the struggles Jennette faced. Honestly it made me really sad for her. Reading this book was rather difficult for me because o felt extremely empathetic for her. Overall I am happy with how it ended, and happy to see she at least made a life-long friend in Miranda.

Wow, the author has been through so much in her life and it’s amazing to see that she is working her way through to the other side.
The first two-thirds of the book are very dark and intense. The book is not as funny as I thought it would be. Most of it is actually VERY heavy.
The second half of the book fell flat for me because it felt a bit premature as though she’s still early on in her recovery and healing from her mother’s death and trauma from her mother’s abuse.
