I think I must have been slightly stupid as a child. I've read this before, decided it wasn't that great, and never carried on with the series. I've been wasting my life!
The beginning was one of my favourites of any book. I love it when characters talk to the readers, and Percy did that. And he gave that sort of mysteriousness, where you're not quite sure if it really is fiction. Or at least, you don't want to say it is.

Absolutely LOVED it! I had so much fun reading about all of the Olympian gods and their realms and symbols and relationships among each other.
Percy is a demigod, being the son of Poseidon. Maybe this is fairly common knowledge, but it's nothing I knew. It made sense to me prior to finding out who his father was though because of things that were said and that he was going to Camp Half-Blood.
Percy's story is epic: he is on a quest, he has helper(s), he fights monsters and travels wide and far, he ...more

I can't believe it took me so long to read this! I've been wanting to for years and finally grabbed a buddy to read this with me.
This is a lot of fun, jumping into action right away and keeping a fast pace as we follow Percy and his friends on a quest for the gods. The chapter titles are funny and I loved that Percy is stubborn and will stand up to anyone to help others. I can't wait to read more! ...more

Percy Jackson, finds out he is a half-blood, half mortal and half God; defined as a hero in mythology. As he learns of his special powers and his Godly connections, he also finds he is the only one who can go on a particular quest to save the world from war. This sets up a good tale for more chapters. Well written series for middle-school readers.
Why did I take so long to read such a great story? MUST READ THE SEQUEL!!! *looking for it in my Kobo*
