Five years ago, Andie Bell was murdered by her boyfriend Sal Singh. While everyone is convinced of Sal's guilt, Andie's body has never been found. And to senior Pippa Fitz-Amobi, she isn't convinced Sal was guilty. For her senior capstone project, she decides to open the case back up and truly find out what happened to Sal. As Pip comes closer to uncovering dangerous secrets and outing the killer, they are still out there and prepared to keep her from finding the truth and living to tell DAYUMMM.

This was such a good murder mystery!! At first, it seemed like this would be a pretty innocent tale of Pippa either proving Sal murdered his girlfriend or he was innocent and someone murdered him. However, as Pip begins uncovering pieces of the puzzle, she starts getting threatening notes. The tension and eerie atmosphere gave me chills and had the hairs on the back of my neck standing straight up the entire time. Whenever Pip was alone, I was terrified someone was about to jump out with a knife yelling GOTCHA!

Pippa knows there's no way she can solve the murder on her own, and she surprisingly recruits Ravi Singh, Sal's brother, to her cause. I loved the friendship that developed between these two. Their banter and support of each other was so wholesome and it made my heart happy.

I was kept guessing the ENTIRE book. Even when I thought I had all the answers, Ms. Jackson sends a curve ball straight to the plot. I loved how their were so many secrets to be uncovered. Everyone was hella suspicious and had ulterior motives for all their actions. It made for a crazy plot, but damn was it entertaining.

I also loved the huge family aspect in this story. Pippa's family is heavily involved in the story and not just as "do your homework kid" parents. Not that Pippa needs any encouragement to do her work. But not only is Pippa's blood family involved, but her best friend Kara's family is super close. I loved the sisterly relationship Pip and Kara had. They were so amazing to each other, and the sacrifices they would make for each other was devastating. Plus Kara's lesbian rep was so casually and smoothly inserted into the story. It wasn't a big deal, she was just gay and life went on. I loved it and we need more of this!

Overall, my brain is still scrambled from this story. It was amazing!! Cannot wait to see what Holly Jackson will write next. ...more

A mystery story in which I liked the characters as much as the case being investigated.
Pippa, in particular was very likeable and her family even more so. Loved how comfortable they were with each other and the relationship she shared with her parents.

A fun YA mystery/thriller and a great debut novel. I had a good time with this one and really liked the audiobook.

The protagonist is fun and smart and I quite liked her. The majority of the story felt believable and the tension was pretty well managed throughout the story. I did guess the majority of the ending pretty early on in the book, but there were a lot of red herrings that had me mildly questioning my assumptions. There's something I find so easy and simple to follow with YA mysteries, and for that reason they make good audios. I'm so glad some mysteries made it into the YA Fiction genre as nominees. I probably won't be continuing this series, but it definitely did take some exciting twists and turns. It didn't end quite as I thought it would, but it definitely ended realistically, which I appreciated. I like how the romance was just hinted at, it didn't take over the forefront of the story.
