I was really on the fence about reading This Woven Kingdom when I first heard about it. I have a total love-hate relationship with Tahereh Mafi. I love her writing style and characterisations, however I DNF’d the Shatter Me series. I was really on the fence about reading This Woven Kingdom when I first heard about it. I have a total love-hate relationship with Tahereh Mafi. I love her writing style and characterisations, however I DNF’d the Shatter Me series. I really really hated one of the main love interests and after book 2 felt completely heartbroken and like I really couldn’t trust her in terms of the love story. However, I decided I would give this one a go with it being a completely different series. I am so glad that I did, as I really enjoyed this one.

This Woven Kingdom is everything that I love in a YA Fantasy. It follows the story of Alizah and Kamran. Both just trying their best to survive in a world of humans and Jinn. They are destined to be enemies, but when they meet, sparks fly. There’s just something drawing them together. Can they ever give in to their growing feelings for each other without being torn apart by the secrets of the crown?

I really loved the premise of this book. I am a huge fan of different mythologies, and I haven’t actually read any books based around Persian mythology before. That was a big plus for me as I don’t know much about it, and I loved learning about these new mythologies throughout the book. I have read a few books including Jinn so as soon as I heard this book has Jinn, I knew I needed to read it. I loved following the history of the Jinn in this world and seeing how everything played out with the magic of the Jinn and the non-magic people in charge.

This Woven Kingdom was a little bit slow to start. It took me a little while to get into it, but once the story started to pick up I was obsessed. I couldn’t put it down. I was so shocked at some of the events, which is a major plus for me. I tend to see most twists coming a mile off, so the fact that I was completely blindsided by this one made me love this book all the more.

This book is a fantastic start to a new fantasy series, and I really cannot wait to get my hands on the second book. I am still keeping my heart guarded until after the second book just in case of a dreaded love switch, but I am really impressed with this book and it’s made me super excited to see what this incredibly talented author will write next.

I liked this a lot. Very fresh feeling with a sultry Indian kind of feel like Tasha Suri. Some fantasy elements felt out of place though like the sudden dragons.
