When I first started this book, I was cautious because the prologue was a little too slow. I didn't see how I would be able to care about four-- and then multiple people's lives-- to whom we were introduced in this book. Part of why I had a hard time getting into this book was the omniscient 3rd person POV which mind-hopped to soo many people. But that's also part of what made this book interesting, once you got far enough. It was like seeing a flash of what was, is, and could be, for others in

There was a surprise gay and they were my favorite character!!
This was such a good book about family and what family is. I loved the relationship between the siblings. It was so wholesome and my heart is completely full.
Malibu, California 1983: Everyone who is anyone will be at Nina Riva's party tonight. No one knows it yet but this will be the last party Nina ever hosts. Before the mansion burns down though, the music and alcohol will flow and secrets will be revealed. The hours leading up to ...more

This story of a dysfunctional family and its dynamics was so engrossing that I read it in a single day!

Born to a famous father, singer Mick Riva, who appears in the author's other books as well, the brothers and sisters are abandoned to their own devices very early because of his philandering and their m ...more

This book is so good! It is packed with family drama and plot twists.
Things I like:
- I love Reid's writing style. I was engrossed into the story of this famous family and their problems.
- I loved how the story switched back and forth between the parents and the children.
- Even though I didn't like the characters themselves, I loved reading about them. Lots of drama.
- I like how the ending resolved things for the characters.
- I love how things ended for Nina. I would love another book about ...more

Taylor Jenkins Reid just keeps getting better. I enjoyed Evelyn Hugo, I loved Daisy Jones, and Malibu Rising lived up to my expectations. From the minute I picked up the book I was immediately captivated. I love the way Taylor Jenkins Reid tells a story. The characters are always so real and raw and they descriptions are awesome. I enjoyed the story from the very beginning to the end. The way everything is weaved together through the big annual party the Riva siblings throw every year.. This is
