When I first started this book, I was cautious because the prologue was a little too slow. I didn't see how I would be able to care about four-- and then multiple people's lives-- to whom we were introduced in this book. Part of why I had a hard time getting into this book was the omniscient 3rd person POV which mind-hopped to soo many people. There was a surprise gay and they were my favorite character!!

This was such a good book about family and what family is. I loved the relationship between the siblings. It was so wholesome and my heart is completely full.

This story of a dysfunctional family and its dynamics was so engrossing that I read it in a single day!
Taking place on a single day with flashbacks to the past and revolving around a whacky, wild party at a beach house in Malibu in 1983, it is the tale of the Riva siblings, Nina, Jay,Hud and Kit. The Riva family suffers. But they suffer together and have perhaps the strongest set of sibling bonds than in most families. Children of the famous Mick Riva, the four Riva children really have to learn to be self-sufficient when Mick’s weakness for other women dominates him.

The book is set primarily during a party at Nina Riva’s house, an annual party that her and her siblings throw every year. And this year is quite dramatic.
