Hercule Poirot in on the Orient Express when he is approached by a gentleman named Ratchett asking for his protection as he believes his life is in danger. The next morning, Ratchett is found dead in his cabin and Poirot is roped into figuring out who did it.

Though I was curious about the mystery from the beginning, this did take a while to finally grip me. A very good mystery and a large portion of the story is interviews of Poirot and the passengers on the train, which was neat. The conclusion was excellent. ...more

4 stars. Loved this one. I’ve wanted to watch the recent film adaptation but decided that I should read the book first and I think that was the best way to go about it. This was so much fun. Agatha Christie was known as the ‘Queen of Mystery’ for a reason. Her writing is so incredibly atmospheric and the suspense is well done. First Agatha Christie novel and it didn't disappoint. I enjoyed Hercule and seeing how the pieces fit together. I didn't expect the ending. Interesting read. I will have to check out more of the series and maybe start from the beginning.

I feel as though this would have been a favorite Agatha Christie of mine if it weren't for the fact that I already knew what was going to happen. Give me 5 years or so to forget the plot and I'll reread this and probably enjoy it a lot more.
