I read Book Lovers as part of a group read, I probably wouldn't have picked it otherwise. Romance isn't my genre, and it looked a bit lightweight for my taste but I thought I'd give it a go.

I enjoyed this book. I liked the story and characters and found it very entertaining. Overall, it is a nice contemporary romance. The only thing is that it didn’t gripped me emotionally to really like it.

The moment I knew this book was going to feel different for me: "The rules are different for women." and shortly after, "Even men like us don't want to be with us." Now I'm probably projecting too much into these characters and that's why I enjoyed them so much, but after many failed dates with successful men in my field, who my mom swore would understand me better as I became more educated and dated accordingly, and being told many of the exact same things Nora was told throughout my life, ther The moment I knew this book was going to feel different for me: "The rules are different for women." and shortly after, "Even men like us don't want to be with us." Now I'm probably projecting too much into these characters and that's why I enjoyed them so much, but after many failed dates with successful men in my field, who my mom swore would understand me better as I became more educated and dated accordingly, and being told many of the exact same things Nora was told throughout my life, there was no way I would have ended up disliking this book. It is so rare for me to feel like I could relate to a character so heavily.

I wish I was joking when I say that I currently have a note on my mac with about 800 words in shorthand and without annotations talking about this book.

It had many things I love! A strong female lead, a strong male lead, lovable side characters, and so many quotable moments. It was funny, engaging, and heart wrenching. Emily Henry has a gift of making me laugh through my tears. Plus it was about people who love books (and we all love those), and it showed a side of publishing that doesn't get talked about often.

I had high expectations going into it based on the plot and her last two books, and she exceeded them so easily and quickly into the book. I don't even usually enjoy romance novels much, but the way Emily Henry writes about life, relationships, and her characters is just so wonderfully done that I continue wanting to pick up every book she writes. I walked away from the book feeling understood, like I learned something about myself, and completely satisfied with the ending. I always appreciate a book that makes you reminisce on why you love reading and gives you beautiful, relatable quotes. If you want a book that you can pick up, read in a few sittings, and be surprised with how much time has passed the next time you look up, then this is the book for you.

Now just a random spoiler-free list of things I have to mention that were great:
- THE BANTERING!!!
- The book as life comparisons.
- Charlie.
- Nora.
- I dislike certain cliches, but she does them so seamlessly like the "we can share my umbrella".
- It was my exact sense of humor and sarcasm.

***Here come some quotes I must mention!***
"You seem pretty proud of yourself for a woman who just found out she was the inspiration for Cruella De Ville."

"There are full series I love whose last chapter I've never read. I hate the feeling of something ending." - Same.

"Because it's f*cking lonely to feel like you don't fit somewhere... I get so f*cking claustrophobic from it all. From feeling like I don't know how to be myself here, from getting in my head about who I'm supposed to be or all the ways I haven't turned out..." - I don't know about Emily Henry's life but she's able to capture that feeling of "otherness" that some of us feel every time we step foot in our hometowns.

*Side note:
Also after reading a few lower star reviews, I have to say, I understood these characters so well that it was incredibly easy for me to fall in love with them, but I can see how other's might find the flaws in their characters and dislike them. From Charlie's family dynamics and association to his hometown, to Nora basically parenting her sister, to Libby wanting to prove that she could do it on her own. I was basically able to correspond a person in my own life to those in the story in every page. Except, for the romance aspect of course... but until a man written by a woman shows up, I'm not exactly holding my breath. ...more
