Beware of spoilers! O_o What??

This one cost this book 1 star.
I had my doubts on this one. And even after reading it I'm still not persuaded it's poetry. I prefer my poetry to be more classic than this, color me old-fashioned.
The doodles were occasionally nice but not thoughout the book. (See the one above. Made me cringe.) The words were sometimes fitting and sometimes non-sensical. I do realise the artistic license was applied generously, still, uh! I felt like giving this girl some textbook o ...more

I actually read most of this book last summer when I borrowed it from someone, but didn't manage to finish it before the end of the day so I had to give it back! Now, I have a library copy and started again because last summer was a long time ago! It's also definitely a book you can read in one sitting.
Okay, this is a VERY overhyped book. It has had some of the most internet-hype I have ever heard of, particularly for a poetry book (okay, poetry/prose). And... it's okay.

I absolutely love poetry! I think one of the beauties of poetry is that it doesn't have to have rhyme or reason. It doesn't have to follow any rigid standards or be written in iambic pentameter as Shakespeare wrote so often. It doesn't have to have a specific rhyme scheme such as ABAB CDCD EFEF GG. Yes, rules such as these are kind of fun to attempt to write so you can learn from the greats, but poetry is how one wants to make it and I think Rupi Kaur did a superb job of it. Plus, this book is n

3 stars. Meh, this was just okay for me. I really, really enjoyed the first half of this and I thought it was brilliant but then as it kept going, I quickly lost interest. The writing isn't bad but I felt it was bit too pretentious for my taste at times and it left me a little annoyed. Do I think this is worth reading? Yes. Do I think it's as amazing as everyone claims? Not really but it's an interesting, quick read nonetheless.

overrated, tbh, but certain poems in the breaking and healing sections really resonated with me. it's just, the metaphors were too blatant and a lot of the writing was really basic. i'm happy a few poems really stood out to me though and captured my heart.

This type of poetry just doesn't do it for me. Personally, I found a lot of it to be cliche or slightly altered phrases I've heard before. I only found myself 'high-lighting' one poem.

Full disclosure I am not huge on poetry, but picked this up to see what the hype was about. The first section was pretty sad. My favorite part was about femininity and loving oneself the way they are. It's ok to be who you are and to be comfortable with yourself in any form. I didn't connect much with the middle part of the book.

This book is so empowering! I could connect with the stories which left me at the end making me feel like I've made the right decisions in my life and that I'm awesome for being who I am. I'm incredibly thankful for this book and will hold onto it for many more rereads.

Beautiful! In every verse, one feels the variety of emotions felt by all women. My 18 year old niece, also felt the connections.
