I constantly thought the narrator was actually Neil Gaiman and that is the highest order of compliment I can bestow to a male narrator.
All I'm gonna say about the synopsis is that you should pick this up if you like atmospheric and creepy books. If you like books about hauntings, this is for you.

I was super happy to get my hands on an early ARC of this beauty. I will read anything Schwab puts out, hands down. And luckily, she never really disappoints. Gallant was a beauty read with a haunting gothic vibe. Perfect for October evenings.
Abandoned at an orphanage when she was just a baby, the only thing Olivia Prior has ever had of her parents is an old journal from her mom. It's here that she feels close and loved. But it's also here where she can see her mother's descent into madness. Wh ...more

This was my third read from Schwab and I have to say that I really enjoy her writing style. Gallant was a fun, short read with a great setup. The pacing was a little slow to start and a little quick once the story got rolling, but I still just enjoyed everything that was going on. Outside of Schwab's fantastic writing, her character work is always a lot of fun. In this case, I think her protagonist construction is among the best I've read. Olivia was a fabulously developed character and I loved

This was like reading a combination of Coraline, We have always lived in the castle, The haunting of Hill House, Mexican Gothic among others that came together to provide a wild ride.
Craving a family of her own, Olivia chooses to respond to her uncle's invitation to go and live with him in his house, Gallant, despite her never seen mother's warning not to do that very thing. Her mother's cryptic journal is her only connection to her parents while growing up in the Merilance house for independent ...more

This was ok. I enjoyed the prose and style of the writing, but I wasn't enamored with the actual story. I found my mind wandering to other things while reading, which is a sure sign I'm just not into it. I honestly just don't have much to say about this book.

I know a lot of people who read V.E. Schwab said this was not the best but I haven't read any and I loved this book. An orphan girl who can see spirits alone had me hooked. But add in a mysterious letter calling her to a family home when she wasn't aware she had family and it happens to be the place her mother's journal told her to stay away from and I couldn't get enough.

Wow, this book was fantastic! I loved how the main character, Olivia, is portrayed. Olivia can hear but cannot speak, yet her thoughts are as vivid as if she is speaking directly to the reader. She starts out as an orphan girl who finds her family. Or rather, her family finds her. This family has many secrets, as well as ghosts and ghouls hiding in the closet! She has many details to discover, such as finding out what happened to her parents, why her cousin is so miserable, and what is the secre
