On a reread I’ve upgraded this from 4 to 5 stars. Having now read the whole series and found it brilliant in both conception and execution, I see how meticulously planned the series was by Meyer right from the beginning, finding the clues in this book that lead to the rest of the story. Very clever indeed.

Full Review on my blog!
Cinder is a retelling of one my favorite fairytales Cinderella. In this modern fairytale set in futuristic New Beijing, hundred years after World War IV, we are introduced to the main heroine: Cinder. A deadly and contagious disease is ravaging the Earth and killing its people, not to mention an imminent war against the people who live on the Moon (Luna), the Lunars. Cinder will soon discover that that the peace and safety of Earthens might possibly lie in her hands.

It took me way too long to go back and restart the Lunar Chronicles since I never finished Cress and got to Winter (I know shame on me but blame it on my ability to get easily distracted by another book) but I have to say it was even better this time around.
I really missed this futuristic world that Meyer built with such care and detail that every aspect from the hover crafts to the port screens just seem completely normal aspect of life and not something that actually doesn't ...more

This is a reread for me so I can continue the series (I never got past Scarlet!) and also a buddy read - it's been a pleasure :D
A retelling of Cinderella where she's a cyborg in New Beijing 126 years after WW4 - same horrible stepmother/'legal guardian', but here one of the sisters is kind: innocent, young and all-round cutie-pie, Peony. (view spoiler) Cinder is a mechanic and the prince is the emperorer'ss ...more

I had bought the new boxed set because I'm obsessed with the cover art and I remembered really liking this series the first time I read the ebooks years ago.
I'm glad that I was right! It was even more enjoyable reading it this second time around. The characters are so enjoyable. Cinder is one of my favorite modern retellings I've ever read. The combination of futuristic sci-fi technology, a "forbidden" romance, balls, the discrimination between cyborgs, Lunars, and Earthens. It's all done so we ...more

Cinder by Marissa Meyer
Cinder weaves in two Fairytales Retell into this dystopian novel. Cinder a young, half human, and Cyborg who lives with her two sisters and Stepmother. The Cinderella theme right here and also when Cinder meets the Prince Kai in disguise when he brought his android for her to repair. Cinder is taken as a volunteer to help with finding an antidote for the Blue Fever that majority of the humans have been violently sick resulting in death. Cinder finds kindness from the Docto ...more

I tried, but I DNF. Hell I couldn't even get to page 20. It's not the book, in all honestly it's me. I have never been a fairy tale type of person especially when it comes to the girly ones like Cinderella. I especially loathe the story of Cinderella. IT pisses me off and makes my blood boil. This book was a take on the fairy tale of Cinderella, but Cinder is robotic. The book comes with a prince..Prince Kai! Prince Kai really? I rolled my eyes so far back into my head I swore they almost froze

First listened to this book Jan. 1 2012.
Second time I read this book May 10, 2015.
Third: Feb. 1, 2016
(May 10, 2015) I still absolutely loved the story. I am so excited to get the next book. I love Cinder. I hope she is in the next book although I think it is from another "princess'" point of view. This futuristic world is very fascinating and I am excited to see more of it.
(Feb 1, 2016) I read this book in a day! I could not put it down even though I remembered most of it. Cinder has to be my ...more

Great new take on a classic tale! Perfect blend of sci-fi and the fantasy I was raised on, I'm very eager to see where the series will go.

I'm only giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because it was a bit predictable, but overall, I enjoyed the book.
