What Members Thought

I give Cinder a 4.5. It was really a very good book, easy to read and a different take on a futuristic Cinderella story. I would have given it a 5 except that I have to admit it was easy to figure out the twists.
I was pleasantly surprised to read Cinder. I had no idea I would like this book as much as I did, as I am not a big Sci-Fi reader. I loved how the author added certain familiar parts to Cinderella and then very much made it it's own story. ...more

Cinder Review on K-Books
"He was so far out of realm, her world, that she should have stopped thinking about him the second the door had closed. Should stop thinking about him immediately. Should never think about him again, except maybe as a client - and her prince. And yet, the memory of his fingers against her skin refused to fade. "

What a journey! I devour every piece of this book. The beginning didn't strike off as something so special to me but halfway through the book, I found myself can't stop reading this book! Full of unexpected twist, which is so awe-inspiring. Marissa Meyer really thought everything out. Iko is sooo adorable and Cinder is a very strong female character. I love the character, the plot, the twist, everything. Cinder definitely went through some character development in this book. And all the characte

A gripping book, I didn't want to put it down but the "twist" was predictable. I would have enjoyed this book more if I read it in Middle school

Apparently I didn't review this book when I first read it a couple years ago.
This book is a really good beginning to an amazing series.
So yes it is a Cinderella retelling where Cinderella is a cyborg named Cinder. It's also set in what is basically Asia so that's really neat. It sounds kind of weird, but it's done really well.
Strong female leads, good romance without being cheesy or triangley, great world-building, overall very believable.

Loved this book! The plot was suspenseful and gripping. I was trying to go slow and savor it (like usual) but then towards the middle I just had to know what would happen next and I flew through the rest of it in a couple of hours. I will definitely be reading the rest of this series!!

3.5 stars. Re-reading this, I liked it better than I originally did and almost bumped it up to 4 stars because 3 just didn't seem to be accurate. Since my biggest problem the first time around was seeing the twist well in advance of it happening...that didn't bother me at all this time since I knew the full story. I felt like it was so enjoyable to listen to this time around, and it really got me in the mode to get back into the series. I like to listen to books sometimes when I do a reread just

I had heard so many positive and great things about The Lunar Chronicles, but it took me a little while ot get the itch to read them myself. I've just read the first in the series, Cinder, and feel very happy that I finally got around to it. I loved this. The cyborg twist on a familiar fairy tale, a futuristic society struggling with disease and the possibility of war. It is so well written, so completely addictive to read, and with sci-fi and fantasy elements to make fans of those genres happy.

Loved it! I listened to this on audio and the narrator did a fantastic job. Despite it being a "Cinderella" retelling, there are so many new elements to this book, that if you are turned off by that fact - it really won't be an issue - I promise. Yes, Cinderella is a cyborg mechanic with a mean step-mother and there is a prince - but the story, the plot & the pacing were all engaging. The characters - oh so brilliantly written that I wanted to reach into the book and strangle the step-mother whe

I am a sucker for re-worked fairy tales. I don't know what it is about them that calls to me.
This one had a slightly different premise - Cinderella as a cyborg in the future. I think that this story would have had more appeal, in the end, if Meyer hadn't tried so dang hard to hit on every last moment of the original story - down to the ball.
Surprisingly, the only thing that redeemed it, in my opinion, is that some of the events (view spoiler) were un ...more

I love retellings of classic fairy-tales and I think this is one of the most inventive that I have ever read. Cinder was amazing and I had a hard time putting it down, even though I wasn't surprised by the revelation of who Cinder is. I remember stopping at one point in excitement and asking my daughter (after explaining what was going on) did she agree with what I thought was happening. We were both right. I will definitely be reading the rest of this series.
