“That’s how my story ends. With the loss of everyone I have ever loved. With me in a big beautiful upper east side apartment missing everyone who ever meant anything to me. When you write the ending Monique make sure it’s clear that I don’t love this apartment. That I don’t care about all my money. That I couldn’t give a rats ass if people think I’m a legend. That the adoration of millions of people never warmed my bed. When you write the ending Monique tell everyone that is the people I miss. T ...more

I am still trying to wrap my head around how amazing this book was and how I can put it in words that make sense. Go read this book.

I have never read a book quite like this before. It was fictional, but felt like it was so real. Taylor Jenkins Reid has a real ability to pull you into her characters lives and worlds as if they’re real. With this, I want to go watch all Evelyn Hugo’s movies and find the tabloid articles about her to try to compare them to the truth she tells to Monique. I was comp

I'm not sure what I should say about this book. I really enjoyed reading it. I can totally understand why this book has gotten the amount of hype that it has. It is totally well-deserved. I heard from a friend that this book has never not been on hold at the library since it came out in 2017, FOUR freaking year ago.
The pacing of the book was *chef's kiss* I could not stop reading it even though I knew that I should stop and actually do some work. The ending wasn't as crazy as I was expecting it

Magnificent! I waited far too long to finally read this one, but it certainly was a good choice for my first audiobook of 2022. Taylor Jenkins Reid is amazing.

This fictional biography not only feels real, but the fictional starlet feels real as well. Though there is a story woven around it, the core of the novel is the life story of Evelyn Hugo. Had the pieces of this novel with Evelyn telling her story been picked out and stitched together, I'm sure some readers could easily be convinced that t

A really enjoyable read about the life of a (fictious) Marilyn Monroe-esque starlet and what it took for her to make it as an actress. It was interesting to read her backstory, but ultimately - all the husbands and her life felt a little 1-dimensional - except for her reading about her 1 true love. It was heartbreaking in the end.

A piece of advice for reading this book: pay attention. Don't underestimate it as pop literature. Don't read it during busy moments where you're not fully paying attention. I did that, and I absolutely did NOT see the pivotal twist coming--but, in retrospect, I probably should have. (view spoiler) ...more
