What Members Thought

A lot of times, books that span over a long period of time are hard for me, but this one was written in such a coherent way that it didn’t matter. And, I’ll admit, the idea of one person marrying seven times in their lifetime did seem a bit far-fetched to me at first. However, the story showed there really wasn’t another way for Evelyn and all of her marriages meant different things. Overall, this was a very lovely story.

I was so nervous to read this book. It's been sitting on my shelf for years. I worried the hype would leave me disappointed. I worried it would not hit me like Carrie and Daisy did. I should have never doubted. I understand why this is still raved about as TJR's best, because I honestly think it is.

Don't get me wrong, I have loved so much about TJR's books but this one was on another level. I ugly cried reading this because it broke my heart so many times. I'm crying writing this review just re

This book was one of the most leisurely reads I had this year. The story flows seamlessly, and even if it’s not the plot itself that keeps the reader glued to the page, the prose does. The book doesn't get the last 1/2 star because I thought TJR 𝘥𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘢𝘭𝘭 toward the end. She tied in all the loose ends too easily. Nevertheless, I will be reading more by this author. ...more

I waited entirely too long to read this amazing story. I was expecting a glamourous old Hollywood style story. There is some of that element, but I wasn’t expecting it to cover so many other genres with such a powerful, emotional story. It is part historical fiction, part contemporary romance. It is a beautiful story that left me feeling so much when the book was over. There are several trigger/ content warnings: (view spoiler) ...more

Can I just say that this book was just, *chef’s kiss*, amazing. SO amazing. I didn’t find myself very gravitated towards this book when it was first getting the hype that it was. The premise didn’t grab my attention very much and I tend to be very picky with historical fiction. I decided to give it a shot anyway and boy am I really glad I did.

Taylor Jenkins Reid tugs at your heartstrings with this book. The story is beautifully written and the characters are so painfully human, you can’t help bu
