I quite enjoyed this book. I thought the setting was evocatively laid open to the reader and the action had some pace and drive. I do question whether this is truly a retelling of Romeo and Juliet as I felt the author lost control of that relationship between the original and her story line. There were times when I could not relate what was happening to the original at all and other times when i felt she was trying to fit in everything in order to maintain the connection.

Imagine weaving a re-telling of Romeo and Juliet that includes the dazzling Far East, rival gangs clashing and killing at every corner, a monster, and an outbreak that threatens everyone? Realistically how bad can it be? Well.... very very bad.
