Did I just give a 5 star rating to a romance novel? Who am I?
This was so much more than I expected it to be. I expected a light fluffy summer romance that I would feel mildly amused by and slightly annoyed about how unrealistic the fairytale ending would be. However, I was met with a story about grief, growth, second chances and realism. This novel while still maintaining a bit of fluffy and super steamy romance moments dug deeper than most. 3.5
January and Augustus are polar opposites, but when they spend three months together on the beach while fighting writer’s block, they find out they may have some things in common after all.
Characters are a big part of the story, and while this may be a character-driven novel, neither January nor Augustus were likable. The pacing was too slow for my liking, which didn’t help either. It wasn’t too hard to get through, though, so read this if you want to quickly knock a book off your challenge.

Emily Henry you did it again! You wrote another perfect man!
I loved the banter in this book and the whole story. I love how Henry always manages to skip the miscommunication trope, in this book she even mentions it when January is conflicted about what to do with Gus.
Beautiful prose, great characters and dialogue and still very different from the other characters she created in the other 2 books I read this year by her!
Emily Henry is now an official auto buy for me.

All the tension and suspense in this book felt really artificial. There wasn't any question about whether Gus was into January, especially once Pete tipped January off, but that didn't stop January from constantly second-guessing herself, calling herself a "dumb bunny" and refusing to return Gus's calls for no reason. And she seriously refused to read her dad's letters to her for the entire book, just so the ending could have an emotional moment when she finally read them. I liked People We Meet

4.5 stars. I've also just learned the US version and UK version have different endings.
