A spooky fairy tale concept, perfectly written and executed.

I absolutely love fairy tale retellings, and my favorite has to be the ones using Alice in wonderland. Overall, this is definitely the most different interpretation that I've read.
The Genre: I'm not the biggest fan of horror, so I was a little bit on the fence about reading it. As I read it, it was definitely a horror book, but I still liked it.

This book took me awhile to decide how I felt about it. I had a hard time processing it. I really got into it when I was about 25%-75% in and then I just didn't enjoy it anymore. I did like the incorporating of the fairy tale aspect into the book, but I did not enjoy how slow some parts of this book were. Great idea, just wasn't a fan. I decided to go right in the middle because I did enjoy parts, but others I did not like at all.

3,5 stars.
A really interesting Alice in Wonderland retelling, that has more in common with a "Alice in Horrorland". I really liked the first part, but I didn't realise the book was almost finished by the time they reached the Hinterlands. The pacing was in fact so off that I have to retract one star, which is a shame. But, all in all, I very much enjoyed The Hazel Wood. ...more
