Thank you to the publisher and to Goodreads giveaways for sending me a copy of the book!
Brimming with dark mysteries and twisting tales, The Hazel Wood reminded me of the atmosphere of The Haunting of Hill House with monsters that could've come from the pages of Alice in Wonderland.

A spooky fairy tale concept, perfectly written and executed.

I really loved this book strangeness and all it told a lot like a creepy old fairy tale there were bits of the creepy tales in the book in bits and pieces. I really liked the character especially Alice she was a very different character a girl that misfortune seemed to follow for a long time she was very well written and she ended up being (view spoiler)

This is a lovely fantasy book. The story is about a girl Alice who lives with her mom Ella and they are constantly chased out of their home by bad luck. The story follows Alice on a sort of self-discovery after a turning point in the book. I felt the adventures were detailed enough to be fantastical but not unnecessarily so. I’m on the fence about the ending.

It's been a while since I wrote a review and I feel like starting with The Hazel Wood - a book that helped me get back into reading - is a fantastic way to begin!
I am a lover of fairytales and even more so a lover of fairytales that have been turned on their heads. The Hazel Wood delivers on multiple levels in this.

3,5 stars.
A really interesting Alice in Wonderland retelling, that has more in common with a "Alice in Horrorland". I really liked the first part, but I didn't realise the book was almost finished by the time they reached the Hinterlands. The pacing was in fact so off that I have to retract one star, which is a shame. But, all in all, I very much enjoyed The Hazel Wood. ...more
