The 5th Wave Review on K-Books
"Because if I am the last one, then I am humanity. And if this is humanity's last war, then I am the battlefield."
The 5th Wave was a book that was bought for me for my birthday when it first released, and here I am almost a full 3 years later finally writing my review the day I finished reading the book. I can't really give a good reason why I didn't read it before now... it was one of those books that I really wanted to read but I just didn't pick it up. I alwa ...more

Aliens have taken over the world again! This, of course, is nothing new and aliens in the guise of humans is also not new. It mostly felt for me like an Angelfall/The Host/Falling Skies mix up.
The aliens, or "The Others" (really?) have attacked humanity through a series of waves. This involves blackouts, tsunamis, plagues and assassins. So we're left wandering what this fifth wave has in store.
I really liked this book but there were a lot of reasons why I couldn't give it five stars.

Even though I've seen the movie, this book was still amazing. Can't wait to read the second one. One thing I didn't enjoy that much though was, at the start, the way it wasn't in order. I like the way the movie did it. And for once, I think the movie was actually done well in comparison to the book, but I may have thought differently if I'd read the book first. Glad I finally read this book :) And I also like how (view spoiler)

Now, I'm not someone who has read a great deal of Y/A fiction. I like to think of myself, though, as a reader who is willing to give most things a try. I've read some Y/A, but this was my first Y/A distopian, of which there are plenty. A story of a world in which aliens have obliterated earth, demolished our planet, and left very few survivors. We follow a few different people here, and we learn about the four waves that happened as "The Others" attempted to take over. I didn't expect this book

Great book. Kept me hooked till the end.
The aliens attack Earth, clean it up from humanity, make it their new home. The world is torn apart, the civilization is down. The military is defeated, only debris of humanity stay alive, those who can't even fight back.
Cassi is left alone, her brother is taken away. As time passes, she realizes that Sammy, her brother, has been taken away by aliens, aliens that have human look, like their souls forced into a human body and now are living amongst the surv ...more

This was okay, but long and for the first half, there were many times where I wanted to put the book down and walk away. But it grew on me, and although there were quite a few things that seemed way too coincidentally right - I think I might pick up the 2nd book in the series ... maybe ... but I'm not really pressed to do so.

Interesting start so far. I thought the way the aliens invaded was interesting. I'm not super crazy about anything, but I enjoyed all of the characters.
