The characters feel so complex with rich backstories that made me fall in love with them. Even characters I disliked at the beginning, started to grow on me when I understood their motivations. I thoroughly enjoyed the pacing and how well timed certain reveals were. This book kept me on the edge of my seat. Such a page turner!! I'm excited to read more! As for our characters…. Oh my gosh!! The journey of Feyre, the protagonist, is both thrilling This is such a well written and captivating story. The characters feel so complex with rich backstories that made me fall in love with them. The journey of Feyre, the protagonist, is both thrilling and emotionally resonant, keeping me wanting more and more! I am not quite sure why there’s such hate for Feyre.. but this is only the first book. I loved her heart, and how she felt for others. Often she let it guide her even if it resulted in her ignoring everything anyone told her. Feyre is a strong female lead, and I am HERE FOR IT!!! Feyre is loyal and in need of love and care. It broke my heart for her to give a crap for her family that obviously did not respect or care for her as she did for them. She is more than a few letters on a page. Feyre brought color, life, loyalty, strength, and love wherever she went. I wanted her to be happy, instead she chose to enslave herself in the attempt to free Tamlin. She loves him but Rhysand or Lucian would be better love matches for her..I just think Feyre confuses loyalty and gratefulness for love. I’m not sure Tamlin deserves her. I think I’d like her better with our morally gray hottie Rhys or our Fiery red headed tragic backstory hottie Lucien. Just my thoughts!!

Lucian: I found him utterly charming. He came across genuine, with his dislike for the human guest (Feyre) and grudging acceptance. When it comes to characters like Lucian I’m always afraid the author will kill them off. With such a tragic backstory as his, it would almost be expected for him to be killed off. He’s so complex and he’s been through so much. He’s witty, intelligent, and overall just cares about people, even when he pretends he doesn’t. I love that he even starts to show care for Feyre after a little while.I want nothing but amazing things for him. I hope to see him fall in love with someone or get a spinoff. He deserves it.

Tamlin: He has this underlying superiority complex, and it really bothered me how he criticized her and practically made fun of Feyre. Granted the curse made things difficult and complex for Tamlin, but take Rhysand as a different example. When Rhysand found out Feyre couldn’t read, he said he would have forced her to learn in the first few months. Rhys would have given her what she needed instead of criticizing her. This is where it clicked for me. Tamlin may give her what she wants but not what she truly needs. Does he really care about her or is Feyre just a distraction and prize to be won? I thought Lucian or Rhys would have been a better partner for Feyre. I didn’t care too much for him. I started out really liking Tamlin but really started disliking him the farther we got into the book. Feyre deserves so much better!!!

Rhysand: I was left with one question, is he her mate? The shocked reaction at the end to the book was too intriguing. I must say I went back and forth with this character. I knew he wasn’t all bad, after saving her during spring fest, and saying he doesn’t remember her face (as not to have feyre tortured). Yet, I really found it interesting on having Feyre drugged and forced to make a spectacle of herself by dancing while drunk on fairy wine. This was cruel to be honest. I mean I hated him at first, even though he is super hot, I mean come on, dark haired and purple eyes? Tattoos and wings? Yummy. But I grew to love him. He’s interesting and complex. I wasn’t sure about him, but he’s obviously drawn to Feyre and did some level of protecting her during her time Under the Mountain. Was it a little self serving? Yes. However, I believe he’s meant to be a bit morally grey. Let me tell you, I AM HERE FOR IT THOUGH!!! I would love for him and Feyre to end up together. Like I said, the ending was SUPER intriguing and makes you wonder, is she meant for Tamlin or Rhys? I think Rhys would be better suited for her due to Tamlins SEVERE superiority complex.

A Court of Thorns and Roses has firmly secured its place as one of my all time favorite reads. Maas' writing is simply exquisite, drawing readers into a world brimming with magic, romance, and intrigue. I cannot recommend this book enough. It’s Perfect for those new to fantasy reads but I believe anyone would enjoy this book! New to fantasy or not. This book seamlessly weaves together elements of fairy tales, romance, and epic adventure. From the moment I picked up A Court of Thorns and Roses, I was completely captivated, unable to put it down until I reached the very last page. 10000000000% recommend!

Still enjoyed it, and had a different perspective going in on Tamlin and Feyre's relationship, of course. Re-reading this first book really adjusted how I see Tamlin as a whole. Tamlin doesn't scream RED FLAG, if any they would be very minor. I can 100% believe that they loved each other (Feyre suffers through the trails for their love!) and it's only after the events Under the Mountain that starts to really break the relationship. I was really liking this book at first, and the author's other series Throne of Glass has grown on me. I like her writing style well enough, and I love fairytale retellings (here's looking at you, Robin McKinley!). However, I read someone else's review on Goodreads, and for better or worse (in this case), it influenced how I read the book. I just don't even know what to say. Sarah J. Maas made me fall in love with another one of her amazing books. I loved it. adored Feyre and Tamlin. How does she write these mind blowing fantasies?

Beautiful cover,beautiful story, fearless characters. A great retelling on one of my favorite fairy tales.

If you read any book this year, pick this up. Action, romance, magic and Sarah J. Maas storytelling.

Hands down my favorite book of 2015!!!
