I was so excited about finally starting this series and now that I've finished the first book, I feel like I expected a little too much from it. My expectations were so high because I've read all the Throne of Glass books that are out so far and absolutely loved them. There was also a crazy amount of hype surrounding this book when it first came out and again when the sequel came out. Because I waited so long to start this series I had built up even more excitement and anticipati **4.5 stars **

I was so excited about finally starting this series and now that I've finished the first book, I feel like I expected a little too much from it. My expectations were so high because I've read all the Throne of Glass books that are out so far and absolutely loved them. There was also a crazy amount of hype surrounding this book when it first came out and again when the sequel came out. Because I waited so long to start this series I had built up even more excitement and anticipation in my head. While this was a great book and I enjoyed it, it didn't quite live up to my unfairly high expectations.

What I didn’t like was the pacing of this book. Even though I was enjoying the story from the beginning, it did feel like it was dragging and I was still kind of waiting for it to really pull me in. Unfortunately that didn’t happen until two thirds of the way into the book. It definitely got a whole lot better from then on, but a book shouldn’t take that long to really capture the reader.

Another pet peeve of mine was the love triangle. Probably my most hated trope of all and it is so overused. I tried to remain indifferent to both Tamlin and Rhysand so that I wouldn’t end up disappointed whichever way the love triangle went. I have to say that I wasn’t particularly fond of either choice in the beginning, but at the end of this book I’m leaning more towards Tamlin. I already have a feeling that the second book will both annoy and disappoint me unless something drastic changes with Rhysand.

And on that note, I really, really, really hated the fact that (view spoiler) It just really doesn't sit well with me no matter how you try and justify it.

Overall ACOTAR was a pretty decent read and I think I would have enjoyed it even more if my expectations hadn’t been so high going into it. I am still really looking forward to reading ACOMAF since I’ve heard numerous times that it’s even better than the first book and even people who hated ACOTAR still liked the sequel.

I think what I enjoyed most about this book was the world. I've never really read a whole lot of Fae based books and thought that the lore and history of those characters was really fascinating!
As a main character, I thought that Feyre was interesting, but didn't really blow me away. She was strong in a sense and I enjoyed her point of view for the most part, but I did feel like she was just a little bit too similar to other main female protagonists that I had read before. Honestly, this book dragged so much and it was a solid four. But it was the end that really made this a five-star read. I get that this book might not be for everyone. There are some problematic things in this book, but overall it was a fun read. I will be continuing on in this series.

this book was AMAZING. i love Sarah j. Maas's writing style, it just gets to me and makes me want to read on. we read this book in the point of view of Feyre, a human girl who's family were going through a rough, terrible winter. she goes out hunting one day to get food for her family and kills a wolf which later on we find out was a faerie in disguise. from killing this faerie she soon finds her life tangled in the world of mystical creatures. plus she meets a high Fae called Tamlin.

I FINALLY READ A BOOK BY SARAH J. MAAS AND I CAN'T BELIEVE IT TOOK ME SO LONG.
This book was SO GOOD. I'm still crying and smiling and laughing and acting like a fool because of this book. IT WAS SO AMAZING AND I LOVE IT AND NOW I CAN'T WAIT TO START 'THRONE OF GLASS'.
