It's official I'm done with Sarah J. Maas. This is the third book I've read by her and I haven't liked any of them. While I did enjoy this one much more then Throne of Glass I still didn't think it was good, it was okay at best. It felt a lot longer then it should have. The middle of the book was very drawn out and boring. I liked Feyre but Tamlin was boring, there was nothing to him. En toen kwam het zwarte gat boek.... je kent dat wel, een boek dat zo goed is, dat je geen idee hebt wat je erna moet lezen, want alles gaat in het niets vallen. A court of thorns and roses is dit boek voor mij.

-- I would not say this book is NOT a YA novel but more to a NEW ADULT because Sarah really upped the maturity of the situations that occur in the book especially with more detailed description of sexual matters. This is not erotica or anything like that.

I had been reading a lot of three star reads and under recently and so I desperately needed to read something that excited me. I was well aware of how polarising A Court of Thorns and Roses was so I decided to take a chance in reading it. Thankfully, I bloody loved every second!

Wow, just wow. This was so entertaining. I'm kicking myself that it had been sitting on my shelf for so long, this was exactly what I needed. I think I was so hesitant to read this because I didn't exactly like Throne of Glass but I need not have worried. A Court of Thorns and Roses is better in every way, in my opinion.

Set in a world that is strictly separated into humans and faeries, humans do not go north of the magical wall separating their kingdoms. Faeries are terrifying and are rumoured to be seen in the forest bordering the wall. An impoverished girl, Feyre, is forced by winter and her starving family to seek game deep in the forest. Events unfold and Feyre is whisked away by a powerful faerie as punishment for killing one of their own in cold blood. The plot goes from there and was just brilliant, I honestly did not guess any part of it.

I really loved the main character Feyre, she reacted exactly as I would have done in her situation. I loved how sex was no big deal in this book - no virgin trope in sight, it's really refreshing. How could I not fall in love with Tamlin? *Sigh* Tamlin... I really rooted for their relationship but I felt he could have done more at the mountain (those of you who have read the book will know what I'm referring to here).

How could I not mention the world of the fae, it was just brilliant. The descriptions particularly shone brightly and I was transported to this beautiful yet dark faerie realm. I also loved the villain, there was nothing really that I didn't like about this book. Quite frankly. Could I live in this world, please?! I am emotionally invested in this story 100% and can't wait to immediately dive into A Court of Mist and Fury and I am going to be pre-ordering A Court of Wings and Ruin. Reread April 2017 - I enjoyed this book so much more this time around. Honestly though that was 90% due to Rhys and me trying to see a hidden meaning in everything 😜

I am really torn with this book. The first hundred pages really dragged and took me so long to get through. The little twists and turns sucked me in though and kept me reading until the end. I really felt the book was a bit overrated, it wasn’t necessarily bad nor my favorite. I kept seeing so much love for this book. I really tried to love it, but I felt it was okay.

The book was a bit boring during the first half. It felt more like a Cinderella story because Feyre had to do everything for her family and her sisters were very ungrateful, especially Nesta. I really felt sorry for the protagonist because without her, her family would have died. I just hated how her family didn’t appreciate Feyre risking her life in the woods. Anyways, she kills a wolf who happens to be a faerie and is forced to live with the fae due to the Treaty between faeries and humans. The action scenes were amazing.

The first half of the book, I did not like and then, when I got to the second half, that’s when everything became exciting. There was a reason why the Spring Court had masks on their face. There was a reason why Tamlin tried so hard to make Feyre fall in love with him. Feyre risked her life to save Tamlin and the Spring Court by going through three difficult trials and the ending didn’t end in a cliffhanger. It ended on a happier note.

I really hated Amarantha. What a villain. She seemed unstoppable too, and made life worse for Tamlin and Feyre. I loved that Feyre was ready to fight and prove her love was real. I really liked Tamlin and Lucien, they were great characters. I really like Tamlin and Feyre together, they had chemistry. Overall, those two are perfect together. There were some steamy scenes as well that made me blush. Tamlin did all he could to keep Feyre safe. I was satisfied with them, but I also feel that Rhysand and Feyre have chemistry as well. I didn’t like Rhysand at first, near the end I loved him. He’s sassy and manipulative, and overall awesome. I felt he was more of the beast than Tamlin. I can’t wait to see what happens in the second book. Although, I would have preferred it being a stand alone, there is still much more the author can write about. Lastly, I wonder what kind of power Feyre now has since she is a faerie. (˃̴̀ᄇॢ˂̴́ ∗)

Would I recommend this book? It’s hard to say. It was only entertaining near the ending. Would you continue reading the series? Yes.

I'm really conflicted over my rating for this book. Some parts I really liked but I can't give a higher rating for moral reasons. It was so refreshing to see sex in a young adult book however I think Sarah took it too far when she described the main character to be constantly drugged, paraded around the throne room naked and giving lap dances. Wow. Um. So, my thoughts on this book are so all over the place. I have it 3 stars.. Maybe 3.5! Because of the one character whom I loved! But other than that this writing was not Maas usual style. It was jagged and rough, hard to follow and boring at some bits.
