Dig. I fell in love with you from the very beginning and I loved you to the very end. I will love you forever!! Who would have thought that big bad biker dude would have such a heart of gold? This is some fine story telling right here. I'm not a spoiler so no talking about specific things but this book raked me over the coals then healed all my wounds. Made me despairingly sad for an untimely loss which we knew was coming from the first book, then picked up the pieces and put it all back together with an incredible ending.

The characters are complex and likable. You will feel and hurt and rejoice right along with them.

What a great read! I enjoyed Dig's in depth version to his and Grace's story, it really filled some of the gaps. This took up a little more then the first 60% of this book. Then it picks up where Lock & Key left off....for the most part.

I am really excited about there being a 3rd installment to the series Iron & Bone. I hope Grace and Miller truly get their HEA, would like to see Boner get one too! ...more

This book. THIS book. I never saw it coming and I am still reeling from the emotional havoc it played on my heart.

I enjoyed Lock and Key, found it an interesting take on the whole MC world. There was an honesty and harsh truth in the story. Plus Miller/Lock and Grace- holy hell! Well written, gripping and another MC world that I was thrilled to spend time visiting.

Unexpectedly Beautiful and Moving

I read Lock and Key and enjoyed it. So I immediately bought Random and Rare because I wanted more of Grace, Dig, Miller and their story. And I wasn't disappointed, I LOVED this book. I think even more than Lock and Key. It was emotional and beautiful, I felt invested in these characters. The first half of this book from Dig's prospective made me fall for him. I loved Cat Porter's debut novel, LOCK & KEY, and was anticipating reading the next book in the series, a book I assumed would be about another member of the One-Eyed Jacks, but Cat rarely does the expected. RANDOM & RARE is a prequel to LOCK & KEY, told mostly from Dig Quillen's POV. It's a different story than the one Grace told in LK, although they certainly have both characters and events in common. This is Dig's story; his history, the events that shaped and formed him into the man that Gra I loved Cat Porter's debut novel, LOCK & KEY, and was anticipating reading the next book in the series, a book I assumed would be about another member of the One-Eyed Jacks, but Cat rarely does the expected. RANDOM & RARE is a prequel to LOCK & KEY, told mostly from Dig Quillen's POV. It's a different story than the one Grace told in LK, although they certainly have both characters and events in common. This is Dig's story; his history, the events that shaped and formed him into the man that Grace loved, and he tells it beautifully. It answers several questions from LK, even questions I didn't realize I had. I thoroughly enjoyed watching all the pieces of the puzzle fall into place. Dig's story is tragic and heartbreaking, and I was in tears many times. Although ultimately tragic, there is plenty of fun, happiness, and romance to Dig and Grace's early story. He is a much more complex, complicated man that I originally thought him to be. His background and early life was surprising, and yet, not. It explained so much about why he lived his life as he did and the choices he made; how a random event can change...everything. Dig questioned what his and Grace's lives would have been like, had certain events never occurred. As different as they are, I was reminded of one of my favorite movies, It's A Wonderful Life. Like George Bailey's life, Dig Quillen's life and his decisions had a lasting impact on countless people that continued years after his death.
This was not a quick read for me. It should have been, but I knew the inevitable conclusion (since I had read LK), and I just couldn't bear to go through that again. It was such an emotional experience the first time, I wasn't sure I could watch Dig die a second time. However, it was impossible for me to stop reading this book. I'm happy to say that I survived it. In fact, it wasn't as painful as I expected it to be. Grace finishes up the last third of the book, which was unexpected for me. The epilogue in LK pretty much wrapped up her life with Miller and their family, so I wasn't sure what else Grace had to tell us. It turns out that Grace still had a lot of story to tell.
