What Members Thought
The Sheltering Sky is Paul Bowles first novel and an impressive debut about a young couple trying to resolve their marital issues which get infinitely complicated during an epic voyage. It is a great (and relatively fast) read and very entertaining. But then, don't take it from me, take it from Tennessee Williams who reviewed it when in came out here.

Occasionally a reading experience corresponds with your personal experience in an uncanny way. I happened to have this out from the library when I had the flu - in the middle of the summer. There seems to be serious division on the quality of writing versus the story being told. Perhaps refer to other reviews for more details on both of these topics.
