Another classic that many were "forced" to read in high school English class, the Great Gatsby is of course an amazing book. Evocative of a superficial world of wealth and sensuality seen from the blasé eyes of Nick Caraway (a very Hemmingway-esque character if I may say). Far better than the recent movie, the book is both poignant and bitingly sarcastic. There is a lot of FS Fitzgerald's own life and obsessions here and plenty of tragedy but without over-the-top pathos. The tone rests - like Ca ...more
